A Georgia man, Terrell Williams, was arrested and charged with second‑degree burglary, safe cracking, money laundering and related offenses after investigators say he entered the North Carolina home of former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle on January 8, 2024. The intrusion came just weeks after a private aircraft carrying Biffle, his wife, two children and three others crashed, killing all aboard.
A Tragic Trigger
According to court filings, Williams learned of the December 18, 2023 crash through social media and other sources, a timeline that helped prosecutors piece together his motive. The crash, which remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, left the Biffle family grieving and their private residence vulnerable.
Stolen Wealth and Evidence
Inside the home, Williams allegedly seized roughly $30,000 in cash, two Glock handguns, assorted NASCAR memorabilia, and a collection of gold and silver coins. Detectives also recovered a radio‑frequency detector that they say he used to locate security cameras, a tool that linked him directly to the burglary.
The stolen items were not the only loot. Investigators uncovered a web of fraudulent activity involving Biffle’s bank, Venmo and PayPal accounts. Funds were diverted to unauthorized accounts, and at least one fraudulent check was cashed, prompting a multi‑state financial probe.

Authorities say Williams is also suspected in a separate North Carolina burglary that left a law‑enforcement officer hospitalized. The pattern of behavior painted a picture of a calculated thief who exploited personal tragedy for profit.
