Opening Match Highlights
DePaul women's soccer took the field on Thursday at 4 p.m. CT for its very first match, facing the Denver Pioneers in a historic opening encounter.
The Blue Demons struck early, with Shayna da Silva and Dory Latenser combining for a 1‑0 lead before the Pioneers answered with two goals in the 14th and 27th minutes, forcing a 2‑2 deadlock at halftime.
Mya Gardner restored parity in the 51st minute, but it was goalkeeper Mason Hillery who kept the score level, making a crucial save in the 86th minute that preserved the draw.
Denver entered the game carrying a 0‑1 record after a weather‑delayed loss to Colorado State, and were missing key contributors Isabella Chidiac, Emma Thielbahr and Brooke Ahern from their lineup.
The teams will meet again on August 23 in St. Charles, Mo., where the Blue Demons will travel to take on the Lindenwood Lions, a match that will stream live on ESPN+ beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
What’s Next for the Blue Demons
Coach and players alike emphasized the importance of building on the early lead and tightening defensive organization, noting that the experience gained will be vital as the schedule progresses.
