A Campuswide Glimpse into the Rigors of FAMU Football
When the sun is still low over Tallahassee, the sound of cleats on turf can be heard before most of the campus has even begun its day. On August 20, 2026, Florida A&M University’s football program will open its practice field to faculty and staff for a three‑hour session titled “Be ALL IN.”
From 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., participants will watch drills, hear from Head Coach Quinn Fordham Gray Sr. and his support staff, and enjoy coffee and doughnuts provided by the athletics department. The event is designed not only to showcase the technical demands of the sport but also to illuminate the broader ecosystem that supports each student‑athlete.
The Early‑Morning Grind
Student‑athletes at FAMU often rise before dawn, completing training sessions that start as early as 4 to 4:30 a.m., then attend classes, study groups, and community service before the day’s athletic commitments. This schedule reflects a deliberate effort to integrate athletic excellence with academic rigor and leadership development.
Coach Gray and the Department of Athletics designed the practice experience to give the university community a tangible sense of the discipline required to balance those competing demands. By observing the routine, staff can appreciate the level of preparation that precedes every game.
Support Beyond the Field
The initiative underscores the university’s commitment to the holistic development of its student‑athletes, emphasizing that success on the field is inseparable from academic engagement and leadership growth. Academic advisors, tutors, and mentors work alongside coaches to ensure each player remains fully engaged in both scholarship and sport.
Coffee and doughnuts will be provided during the event, creating a relaxed environment for informal conversation and networking among faculty, staff, and athletes.
A Call to the Faculty and Staff
Participants are encouraged to arrive early, not only to secure a good view but also to experience the atmosphere that shapes the daily lives of the university’s most visible representatives. The invitation reflects a broader institutional goal: to foster a campuswide appreciation for the sacrifices and achievements of student‑athletes.
