Hofstra University and the United Soccer League (USL) have revealed that James M. Shuart Stadium will serve as the home ground for the newly awarded USL Long Island franchise, set to compete in USL League One beginning in 2028.
A Venue Steeped in Soccer Tradition
The historic stadium, which previously hosted the New York Cosmos in the North American Soccer League during two separate eras and has long been a stage for Hofstra’s championship lacrosse teams, brings a storied backdrop to the upcoming venture.
USL League One, launched in 2019 as the third tier of American professional soccer, currently fields 17 clubs and participates in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and the Prinx Tires USL Cup, offering a clear pathway for emerging talent.

The club’s name, crest and colors will be shaped by fan input, ensuring the brand reflects the cultural fabric of Long Island and fosters a sense of ownership among supporters.
Rick Cole Jr., Hofstra’s Vice President and Director of Athletics, highlighted the university’s legacy of hosting professional sports and its commitment to community engagement, emphasizing that the partnership aligns with the school’s athletic ambitions.
