The University of New Mexico’s Lobos will kick off the 2026 women’s soccer season on Thursday, August 29, at 7 p.m. at the UNM Soccer Complex, hosting Northern Arizona in a match that marks the latest season opener for the program since 2019.
A Milestone Coaching Debut
Karley Nelson, the fifth head coach in Lobos history, takes the reins after a distinguished playing and assistant career. Nelson inherits a program that finished with a 94‑52‑28 overall record and captured the 2021 Mountain West Tournament championship.
The roster blends proven veterans with fresh faces. Returning standout Nicole Anderson, a forward from San Diego who earned Mountain West All‑Conference Second Team honors last season, will lead the attack alongside midfielder Fiona Jenkins.
Eight newcomers have joined the squad, highlighted by goalkeeper Madison London from Creighton, while five international players — including Samantha Corrie of England and Alison Peralta of Mexico — add global depth.
Schedule, Streaming and Fan Access
Following the Northern Arizona encounter, the Lobos travel to face Gonzaga on Sunday and then host Cal State Northridge on August 30. All home games are open to the public at no charge, and live streams will be available through the Mountain West Conference’s MW+ platform.
The team’s defensive identity remains a cornerstone, having set a program record for consecutive shutout minutes (602:51) in 2022. Building on that foundation, the coaching staff emphasizes disciplined back‑line play while integrating new talent.
