A Community Mourns
The hockey world is in mourning after the sudden death of Scott Bloom, a beloved figure from Burnsville, Minnesota, who passed away at 58 following a fatal head injury sustained over the weekend.
Bloom’s name will forever be linked to a dramatic moment in 1985 when, as a high school senior, he netted the winning goal with just 27 seconds left, delivering a 4‑3 victory for Burnsville High over Hill‑Murray.
He added another state title to his résumé the following year, cementing his status as a pillar of Minnesota hockey.
After his playing days, Bloom turned to coaching youth hockey, where he mentored a new generation and kept close ties with many of his former teammates.
A Friend's Reflection
His longtime friend and former teammate Kevin Gorg, now a sideline reporter for the Minnesota Wild, recalled a recent visit to his father’s funeral just two months earlier, when Bloom offered quiet, heartfelt support.
Gorg, who has kept in regular contact with Bloom through texts during key Wild games, expressed profound sadness at the loss of a friend taken far too young.
Investigation Continues
Authorities in Prior Lake are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Bloom’s death, though they have confirmed only that it resulted from a head injury, as stated by the family.
