Council Honors a Local Pillar
City council members approved the renaming at a meeting on August 17, where council member Ruben Gutierrez Jr. described Vela Sr. as a pillar that helped hold the community together.
Roque Vela Jr., the late board member’s son and former council member, said the honor has brought a measure of comfort to his family as they navigate the grieving process.
Family Finds Solace in Remembrance
While the exact date for the official name change has not yet been set, the decision marks a lasting acknowledgment of Vela Sr.’s contributions to local soccer and education.
