Missouri Military Academy announced this summer that its soccer field at the Alain M. Garcia Almada ‘06 Field House would receive a comprehensive lighting upgrade, made possible by a major contribution from the family of alumnus Drake Reid.
A luminous milestone for cadets
The new floodlights were fully operational by August 12, 2024, and a formal lighting ceremony is slated for the coming week, inviting cadets, families and local supporters to celebrate the improvement.
Reid, who previously suited up for the academy’s junior varsity soccer team in the prior season, expressed pride that his family’s gift would help current players compete on a level playing field, literally and figuratively.
With the upgraded illumination, both varsity and junior varsity squads can now host home matches more frequently, reducing the need to travel to external venues and fostering stronger rivalries within the region.
Beyond sport, the illuminated field serves a dual purpose in the academy’s military program, providing a visible platform for reviews, marching drills and rifle exhibitions that are integral to cadet development.
Brian Meny, the academy’s athletic director, has overseen the project for two to three years, noting that the enhanced facilities also play a strategic role in student recruitment and retention, a critical revenue stream for the institution.
Looking ahead, MMA plans additional campus improvements aimed at attracting and keeping cadets, with the upcoming under‑the‑lights match against Christian Fellowship scheduled to showcase the new equipment before an eager audience.
