A New Chapter for UConn Field Hockey
Madi Herb has stepped into a new role as assistant coach for the University of Connecticut’s field hockey program, bringing a blend of playing experience, leadership acumen, and administrative insight.
Her journey with the Huskies began as a standout midfielder and forward, where she captained the team for two seasons, amassed 13 goals and 11 assists, and earned a suite of accolades including the Keith Caddy Award for heart and dedication and the Nancy Stevens Academic Leadership Award in 2024.
Academic Pursuits and Future Vision
Before transitioning to coaching, Herb served as the program’s Director of Operations, overseeing day‑to‑day logistics and player development initiatives, a position that gave her a deep understanding of the program’s inner workings.
Head coach Paul Caddy praised Herb’s trustworthiness and leadership, stating that her appointment reflects the program’s confidence in her ability to contribute both on the field and in the office.
Herb, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences in 2025 and is now pursuing a master’s degree in Personalized Nutrition, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing her commitment to the growth of student‑athletes and the continued success of the Huskies.
In her new capacity, she will combine on‑field coaching responsibilities with administrative duties, a dual focus that aligns with the program’s vision of holistic athlete development.
The move underscores UConn’s strategy of promoting internal talent, leveraging a former player whose career has been marked by championship success at Wilson High School, All‑State and All‑County honors, and a State Championship.
Herb’s appointment is expected to reinforce the team’s competitive edge as it prepares for the upcoming season, blending tactical expertise with a culture of dedication and academic excellence.
