Major Facility Upgrade and Contract Award
The Troy City Schools Board of Education voted to allocate $5,143,254 for a comprehensive upgrade of the baseball and softball fields at Charles Henderson High School. The improvements include new concession stands and a state‑of‑the‑art turf installation, aiming to enhance safety and spectator experience for the upcoming seasons.
Whaley Construction was selected as the successful bidder for the project, beating out several other contractors. The award marks a significant investment in the district’s athletic infrastructure and is expected to be completed before the next school year begins.
In addition to the facility work, the board finalized the TEAMS contract for the 2026‑2027 academic year, securing funding for technology integration and extracurricular programs across all Troy City Schools.
The district also announced a series of personnel changes effective August 19 and August 31. New hires include Trotter Sikes as an ISS aide at Troy Elementary School, Laurie Lynn as a part‑time intervention instruction teacher at the same campus, and Elizabeth Ann Courtney as a band teacher at Charles Henderson Middle School. Jake Jackson was promoted to assistant principal at Charles Henderson Middle School, while Gabrielle Wood joined as a special education teacher at Charles Henderson High School.
Several staff members concluded their service with the district. Rahman Bell resigned as assistant principal at Charles Henderson Middle School on August 28, and Sarah Carlson stepped down from her art teaching position at the same school on August 18. Conversely, Wendy Sammons’ principal contract at Charles Henderson Middle School was approved, effective July 14.
The board also recognized a number of stipend awards for supplementary duties. Mitchell Jones and Emma Fluker each received stipends for extra responsibilities at Troy Elementary School, while Alyne Scarbrough earned a stipend for theater performances at Charles Henderson High School. Dr. Amelia Jackson was awarded a stipend for additional duties at the high school, underscoring the district’s commitment to rewarding extended service.
