Savvas Chionakis, a senior at Aiken Scholars Academy and a standout forward for South Aiken High School, has signed his letter of intent to play soccer at Lander University in Greenwood. The announcement comes after a breakout season in which he netted 38 goals, shattering the school’s single‑season record and earning all‑state honors for the first time.
Coach Brad Reinhart praised the young athlete, calling his contribution “fantastic” and highlighting the impact he will have on the Lander program. Chionakis cited the university’s in‑state location, the campus atmosphere and the arrival of a new coaching staff as key factors in his decision.
Beyond the field, the midfielder is driven by family legacy; his brother Charlie previously wore the Thoroughbreds jersey, inspiring Savvas to pursue the sport from an early age. Off the pitch, he plans to study business and may continue the family’s rental‑property venture after graduation.
