A Non‑Conference Roadmap
The University of North Carolina Tar Heels have unveiled their 2026‑27 non‑conference basketball schedule, a plan that blends preseason exhibitions with a slate of high‑profile neutral‑site contests against teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last year.
The preseason opener is set for October 9 in Greensboro, where the Tar Heels will host Southern California, and the schedule also includes a return to Madison Square Garden for a showdown with Kentucky on December 19, marking a notable homecoming for the program.
Regular‑season non‑conference games will see the Tar Heels travel to Indianapolis to meet Indiana on October 18, host Charlotte on October 27, and later face West Virginia in the Dick Vitale Invitational in Charlotte on November 27. Additional opponents on the schedule include Western Carolina, Wofford, Wyoming, Georgia, Marshall, Monmouth, Arkansas, Butler and The Citadel, providing a varied and challenging slate.
Neutral‑site contests will also be held in Washington, D.C., New York and Nashville, with the Tar Heels scheduled to meet Illinois in Nashville on January 30 as part of the Nashville Hoops Showdown. The ACC will announce its conference schedule later, but the preseason lineup already marks the debut of first‑year head coach Michael Malone.
