Joe Pavelski Returns to Wisconsin in New Capacity
The University of Wisconsin announced this week that Joe Pavelski, a two‑time Olympian and 2006 national champion, will serve as the program’s director of player development, overseeing growth pathways for current and future Badgers.
Pavelski’s appointment follows a stint as an assistant coach alongside Andy Brandt and Steve Briere, who continues to lead goaltending development, creating a collaborative leadership structure within the staff.
A Hall of Fame Career
During his 18‑season NHL career, Pavelski recorded 476 goals and 1,068 points in 1,332 games, placing him fifth among American‑born players in career points and sixth in goals, a testament to his sustained offensive production.
His collegiate roots run deep; Pavelski spent two seasons at Wisconsin, contributing to the 2006 championship team and establishing himself as a leader who later captained the national team.
International experience further enriches his profile, with Olympic silver in 2010 and a fourth‑place finish in 2014, as well as participation in the World Hockey Championship and the World Cup of Hockey.
Beyond the ice, Pavelski recently interviewed for the Toronto Maple Leafs head‑coaching position, emerging as one of five finalists in the second round, underscoring his reputation as a strategic thinker and motivator.
In his new role, he will work closely with the coaching staff to shape player development programs, mentor prospects, and integrate the rigorous standards that defined his own career into the Badgers’ culture.
