The Detroit Red Wings announced today that they have acquired forward Sutter Muzzatti from the Nashville Predators, sealing the deal with a two-year entry-level contract.
Muzzatti, a 23-year-old Michigan native, arrives after a breakout season with the University of Notre Dame, where he led the team with 13 goals, 19 assists and 32 points in 37 games.
A Collegiate Powerhouse
During his lone year at Notre Dame, Muzzatti ranked second on the squad in assists and third in overall points, while also contributing significantly on the power play and racking up penalty minutes that underscored his two-way commitment.
Prior to his Notre Dame stint, the forward spent three seasons at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, posting 50 points and 129 penalty minutes across 78 games from 2022 to 2025, a period that helped refine his physical brand of hockey.
Selected fifth overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Muzzatti was also recognized with a spot on the ECAC All-Rookie Team during the 2022-23 campaign, highlighting his rapid ascent from junior ranks to top prospect status.
Off the ice, Muzzatti follows in the footsteps of his father, Jason Muzzatti, who logged 62 NHL appearances with the Calgary Flames, Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers and San Jose Sharks between 1993 and 1998.
Roots in Michigan
A native of Okemos, Michigan, Muzzatti honed his skills in the state’s competitive youth circuits, eventually starring for the Meijer AAA Hockey Program in East Lansing before moving on to the U.S. National Team Development Program and the Austin Bruins of the NAHL, where he tallied 59 points and 100 penalty minutes in 80 games.
He also logged brief stints with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL during the 2019-20 season and made a single appearance for the national development team, experiences that broadened his exposure on the international stage.
Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman praised the addition, noting that Muzzatti’s blend of offensive upside, defensive responsibility and gritty work ethic aligns perfectly with the club’s long-term vision.
The organization looks forward to integrating the young forward into its roster and watching his continued development as the team aims to return to playoff contention in the coming seasons.
