A New Era for the United Athletic Conference
The United Athletic Conference (UAC) will host its first combined men's and women's basketball tournaments in Allen, Texas, from March 10 to 14, 2027. The event marks the conference's return to Texas after a pause in 2021, when the Southland Conference Tournament was held in Katy. This championship will also serve as the designated site for the 2026‑27, 2027‑28 and 2028‑29 seasons, cementing the Credit Union of Texas Event Center's role as a multi‑year hub for the league.
The Credit Union of Texas Event Center, a venue that accommodates more than 7,000 fans and hosts over 100 events annually, will showcase the culmination of the UAC's rebranding effort. Known for its modern amenities and versatility, the arena will welcome a slate of new conference opponents, including Tarleton State and UT Arlington, who are transitioning from the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Abilene Christian University (ACU) enters the tournament with both its men's and women's squads poised for fresh challenges. The men's team features a completely new roster, incorporating six international players and key returnees such as Cade Hornecker and Yaniel Rivera. Meanwhile, the women's team, led by reigning WAC Player of the Year Payton Hull, arrives after a strong 13‑5 conference record, a WAC title‑game appearance, and a recent international tour that took them from Greece to Rwanda.
The upcoming schedule will see eight UAC matchups at Moody Coliseum beginning on January 6, 2027, before the championship week in Allen. Both the men's and women's teams will face a blend of familiar foes and new competitors, with the men's side aiming to leverage its depth and defensive prowess, while the women's squad looks to build on its recent momentum.
Beyond the tournament, the UAC's expansion signals a broader ambition to strengthen its national footprint. With Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, North Alabama, West Georgia and Little Rock joining the league, the conference hopes to blend regional tradition with competitive balance. As the 2027 championships approach, the blend of new talent, seasoned leadership and a revitalized venue promises a compelling narrative for fans and stakeholders alike.
