A New Chapter for Humboldt Soccer
The Humboldt men’s soccer program will open its official non‑conference schedule on August 27, facing Fresno Pacific and Colorado School of Mines in back‑to‑back road matches as the team steps onto the pitch for its first competitive games of the season.
A core of veteran players, including captains Robert Somerville, E.J. Manibusan and Harper Thweatt, return with a blend of experience and fresh energy, setting the tone for a squad that hopes to tighten its defense and sharpen its attack.
Midfielders Seth Uson, Dominik Chipp, Kaz Kinoshita and Izaiah Grosveld, together with sophomore Izaiah Grosveld, are expected to drive both possession and pressing, while freshmen Azis Camerrer, Dominic De La Torre and Ronaldinho Basulto add depth to the attacking options.
Up front, returning forwards Ethan Gyenis, Luke Gomes and Jai Sternhall will be joined by newcomers De Jon Watson and Alan Garcia, giving the coaching staff a broader palette of options as the season unfolds.
At the back, upperclassmen such as Robert Somerville, Elijah Espinoza, Maumausolo Uiagalelei, Nic Moore, Gabriel Tucci, Vince Warren and Shota Lam will anchor a defensive unit that also features goalkeepers Edwin Monterrosa, Benjamin McDonald, Alvaro Nieves and freshman Trey Cerizo, each bringing a different set of reflexes and command of the penalty area.
Coach Fred Jungemann has repeatedly stressed a measured approach, focusing on one game at a time and encouraging the squad to build confidence through collective effort and the backing of a community that values home‑field support.
The partnership with Danco, which sponsors free home games, underscores the program’s reliance on local sponsors to sustain growth and keep the fan experience accessible.
