The University of Wisconsin‑Madison’s men’s hockey program is set to bolster its coaching ranks with the hiring of two former Badger standouts, Joe Pavelski and Andy Brandt, under the leadership of head coach Mike Hastings.
A Local Legacy Reunites
Joe Pavelski, an 18‑year NHL veteran, two‑time Olympian and Hall of Famer, will assume the role of director of player development, bringing a wealth of professional experience and a championship pedigree earned during his collegiate years at Wisconsin.
Andy Brandt, a Wausau native and member of Wisconsin’s 2006 National Championship team, returns as an assistant coach after stints as head coach of St. Norbert College’s Division III championship squad and three years leading the USHL’s Madison Capitals.
Both appointments were highlighted by head coach Mike Hastings, who emphasized the blend of NHL pedigree and local insight that the new staff brings as the program looks to build on recent successes.
The additions underscore the program’s commitment to leveraging alumni expertise to recruit, develop, and retain talent within the state, reinforcing Wisconsin’s reputation as a hub of collegiate hockey excellence.
