The La Salle women's soccer team traveled to Charlottesville on August 20 to meet the nation's No. 13 ranked Virginia Cavaliers in a non‑conference showdown, entering the match with a 1‑1 record after a narrow opening win.
A Rapid Start
Virginia struck within six minutes when Tatum Calvin finished a feed from Ella Carter, and the pressure mounted quickly as Giovana Canali and Addison Halpern added goals in the tenth minute, establishing a 3‑0 lead before the half‑hour mark.
The Cavaliers kept the momentum, extending their advantage in the 24th minute when Jordyn Hardeman found the net, and later in the second half with goals in the 46th and 71st minutes, sealing a 7‑0 victory.
Widnick's Career‑High Saves
For La Salle, junior goalkeeper Samantha Widnick turned in a career‑high seven saves, keeping the margin respectable despite the onslaught. Teammates Justyce Hollenbach and Halah Lebsack each managed two shot attempts, but the offense could not find a breakthrough.
Looking Ahead
The Explorers will return to action on Sunday, August 23, when they host Bucknell at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium, aiming to rebound from the loss and improve to 2‑1 on the season.
