The LMU men's soccer team opened its season with a 0‑0 stalemate against Michigan at the U‑M Soccer Stadium on Thursday, a result that underscored the defensive resilience of both sides.
Goalkeeper Ky Mani Dade was the standout, producing a series of saves that kept the Lions in the game, highlighted by a crucial stop at the 13th minute on a shot from Joao Paulo Ramos and a shutout performance that featured three saves, two of them in the first half.
Goalkeeper’s decisive interventions
Despite the deadlock, LMU managed five shots to Michigan’s four, with Nicholas Wilson’s attempt at the 14th minute missing the target and Alen Bean’s save on Anthony Boyadjian’s effort at the 30th minute preserving the clean sheet.
The match took a turning point when Felix Contreras was shown a red card in the 75th minute, leaving LMU a man short and forcing the team to defend a numerical disadvantage for the remainder of play.
Offensive contributions came from Boyadjian, who tested the Michigan defense with three attempts, two on target, and Axel Uriostegui, whose single shot on goal added pressure in the final stages.
Looking ahead, the Lions are scheduled to face UC Irvine on Monday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. in Irvine, California, a match that will test their depth after the early‑season grind.
