Big 12 Unveils 2026‑27 Baseball Schedule and Launches Inaugural Wrestling Championship
The Big 12 Conference has released its full slate of games for the upcoming 2026‑27 baseball season, setting up a demanding conference slate that will run from March through May. West Virginia University’s Mountaineers are slated to play a ten‑game series, facing Houston, Kansas, UCF, Arizona State, Baylor, Cincinnati, Arizona, Oklahoma State and TCU in a rotating home‑and‑away format.
The schedule is designed to balance competitive balance with regional rivalries, giving each team multiple chances to jockey for positioning ahead of the conference tournament. WVU’s coaching staff has emphasized the importance of early series wins to secure favorable seeding.
New Wrestling Championship Format Takes Shape
Alongside baseball, the conference introduced a regular‑season wrestling championship, awarding the title to the program with the highest winning percentage in dual meets. Nine schools will compete, comprising four full‑time members — Arizona State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and West Virginia — and five affiliate members — Missouri, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
The championship will be staged annually in Surprise, Arizona, from May 25 to May 29, marking a shift from the previous venue in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The move reflects the conference’s effort to bring the event to a neutral, centrally located site that can accommodate larger crowds and media coverage.
Conference officials say the new structure will add excitement to the regular season, giving teams a clear target and encouraging more dual‑meet matchups. The format also provides a pathway for wrestlers to earn individual accolades and boost recruiting prospects.
