Debuts and Defensive Resolve
The Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team opened its 2026 campaign with a 0‑0 draw against Binghamton, a result that highlighted a disciplined defensive effort and the debut of eight young players in the starting eleven.
Goalkeeper Ryan Collins, a sophomore making his first collegiate appearance, delivered a series of crucial saves, including a double stop in the 38th minute that denied Jona Meiner and a second save at the 53rd minute against Anninos Nicolaou, preserving the clean sheet.
Although Binghamton held a 12‑9 edge in total shots, the Mountaineers outshot the visitors 4‑3 on target, with Daniel Morales Silva producing the most attempts for the home side. The stalemate marked the program’s first win over Binghamton in four meetings and echoed a 2025 draw with Navy.
Early in the match, Oliver Brown and Christian Kyriacou forced chances for the Mount, while Natan Jemaneh Admassu saved Kyriacou’s effort for Binghamton. Collins later denied D.T. Megliola in the 63rd minute, underscoring his growing confidence between the posts.
Eight Mountaineers made their Division I debuts in the lineup, including Ryan Collins, Noah Kaiser, Daniel Morales Silva, Jayson Salvador, Lage Ekra‑Reistad, Thomas Dix, Felix Alschner and Lincoln Bauer, while substitutes Oliver Jorgensen, Kostas Pateritsas and Leo Romero Sonesson also entered the game, adding depth to a youthful roster.
The team will next travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where they are slated to meet Duquesne on Thursday, August 27, before returning home for the remainder of the early‑season schedule.
