The University of Akron’s men’s soccer squad kicked off the 2026 campaign in convincing fashion, posting a 3‑0 victory over the University of Dayton on August 20 at home.
Freshman midfielder Londen Sears opened the scoring in the 11th minute, linking up with junior forward Remi Agunbiade, who added an unassisted goal five minutes later to put the Zips firmly in control.

Goalkeeper Brett Kaminski preserved the clean sheet, making two saves while the defense held firm for the full 90 minutes. The performance marked the 159th career win for head coach Jared Embick, underscoring his steady influence on the program.
Akron outshot Dayton 15‑10 and generated six shots on goal compared with just two for the visitors, while corner kicks stood at eight to two. The Zips entered the match ranked No. 8 by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 12 by the United Soccer Coaches Association.
The team will next host Army on August 24 and Wake Forest on August 28 at FirstEnergy Stadium, looking to build on the early momentum.
