Holiday Basketball Doubleheader Set for December
Washington State University will host its annual 509 Classic on Dec. 22 at Veterans Arena in Spokane, continuing a tradition that pits the Cougars against Eastern Washington University.
A week earlier, on Dec. 19, the Cougars will face Seattle University at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle as part of the inaugural Seattle Holiday Classic, with a single ticket granting access to both events.
Ticket sales open on Aug. 21 at 10 a.m., with lower‑bowl prices beginning at $15 and no hidden fees, providing an affordable option for families and alumni alike.
All proceeds from the 509 Classic will be directed to the WSU men’s basketball excellence fund, a financial engine that supports player recruitment, retention and overall program stability, according to Coach David Riley.
WSU Athletic Director Jon Haarlow emphasized the strategic value of bringing home games to Seattle, noting the region’s strong alumni presence and the opportunity to deepen community ties during the holiday season.
The upcoming matchups follow last season’s 78‑63 victory for the Cougars, a result that underscored the team’s growing competitiveness and reinforced the fund’s importance to the university’s revenue‑sharing model.
In addition to the 509 Classic, fans can purchase premium seating and hospitality packages through Ticketmaster and the Climate Pledge Arena Box Office, expanding the event’s appeal beyond general admission.
By scheduling neutral‑site games in Spokane and Seattle, WSU aims to boost attendance, generate additional revenue and accelerate the growth of its basketball program, positioning the Cougars for sustained success on and off the court.
