Australia to Host 2026 Women’s World Para Ice Hockey Championships

Six nations will compete in Newcastle as the tournament pushes for Paralympic inclusion

The second Women’s World Para Ice Hockey Championships are scheduled to unfold in Newcastle, Australia, between 24 and 29 November 2026, offering a platform for six national squads to contest the title.

A Milestone for Women’s Para Ice Hockey

The event marks a decisive move toward securing a place for women’s Para ice hockey in the Paralympic Winter Games programme for the Alpes 2030 edition, a goal underscored by the International Paralympic Committee’s International Women’s Day Recognition Award for gender‑equality advocacy.

Team USA enters as the defending champion, having secured the inaugural tournament in Dolny Kubin, Slovakia, with a 7‑1 victory over Canada. The competition will also feature Canada, Norway, Great Britain and Australia, while a sixth spot will be filled by a yet‑to‑register nation or, failing that, by a Team World composition, with registration closing on 15 September 2026.

Matches are slated for the Hunter Ice Skating Stadium at Lake Macquarie, a venue supported by Ice Hockey Australia and Paralympics Australia. Organisers hope the world‑class setting will inspire the next generation of athletes and accelerate the sport’s growth worldwide.
