Coach Dustin Fortenberry, now in his second year at the helm, has framed the disappointing slate as a learning opportunity, repeating his mantra “You either win or you learn.” He stresses that the team will not undergo a wholesale overhaul but will instead refine the strengths that have defined the Panthers in recent years.
Central to that approach is a commitment to character development. Fortenberry notes that the squad’s maturity was tested after 17 seniors departed, and the remaining players are being pushed to grow beyond the field.
Key Returners and New Faces
Junior Jackson Kersten, who earned all‑league honors as a tight end and halfback last season, returns as the team’s leading receiver and tackler. He will be joined by a revamped offensive line that includes veterans Cameron Daniel and newcomers Colton Johnson, Ethan Magrini and Mikey Parisot, while Carver Hokanson, a first‑year starter, takes over at quarterback after Talis Payne’s transfer.
The Panthers open the season on August 28 against North Valleys of Reno, a matchup that will serve as the first test of their rebuilt identity. With the Northern Athletic League schedule ahead, the coaching staff is optimistic that the blend of experience and fresh energy will translate into a resurgence.
Fortenberry expressed confidence in the group’s unity, saying, “Every day you get to wear the blue and white is a great day.” The coach’s excitement underscores a broader belief that the program is poised to reclaim the success it enjoyed during its 28‑8 stretch from 2022 to 2024.
