Ice hockey will make its debut at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro this December, turning the venue into the focal point of a two‑day festival that brings together some of the United Kingdom’s most passionate teams.
Historic matchups on the calendar
On Wednesday, 30 December, Dundee Stars will host Fife Flyers at 3 pm, while the same evening sees Glasgow Clan take on the Motorpoint Elite League champions, the Belfast Giants, at 7:30 pm.
The following day, Thursday 31 December—Hogmanay—will feature a trophy clash as Glasgow Clan meet Dundee Stars for the Scotia Quaich at 3 pm, capping the festivities with a festive showdown.
Growing the game
The event is part of a broader effort to expand the Motorpoint Elite League’s reach, offering families a USA‑style entertainment experience and inviting new audiences to discover the sport in Scotland’s largest purpose‑built arena.
Managed by the SEC, the OVO Hydro—formerly known as Braehead Arena—will open its doors to season‑ticket holders until 31 August, after which general tickets will go on sale.
Fans of Glasgow Clan, Dundee Stars, Fife Flyers and the Belfast Giants are expected to fill the venue, creating a vibrant atmosphere that organizers hope will cement ice hockey’s place in the Scottish sporting calendar.
