Ukiah Wildcats Aim to Build on Momentum
The Ukiah Wildcats finished the 2025 season with an 8‑5 record, sharing first place in the Redwood Empire Conference Bay division before falling in the North Coast Section Division 3 title game. The team is now poised to move up to the REC‑Valley league, where it will meet fresh opponents such as Orland, Fortuna and Bishop O’Dowd.
Head coach Paul Cronin, entering his fourth year at the helm, brings a track record of winning seasons and a reputation as one of the most successful coaches in the North Bay. Cronin’s experience has allowed him to promote several underclassmen to the varsity level, meaning many of the players who helped the Wildcats last year are now entering their second or third season as starters.
A Revamped Roster
With seven offensive and nine defensive starters returning, the Wildcats boast one of the most experienced cores in the league. The blend of seasoned juniors and seniors, including Dante Giacomini, Clayton Petri and Parker Marsh, creates a foundation that coaches hope will translate into early-season cohesion.
Junior quarterback Jayden Bird will take over from graduated star Beau David, who was named 2025 Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 2,809 yards and 36 touchdowns. Bird is known for his quick decision‑making, athleticism and ability to extend plays with his feet. Running back Christopher Thompson, who amassed over 1,100 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior, adds a potent ground attack.
New Challenges Ahead
The upcoming schedule pits the Wildcats against a slate of league rivals, including Orland, Fortuna, Arcata, Casa Grande, Petaluma, Rancho Cotate, Maria Carrillo, Redwood and Vintage. While the transition to a more competitive division adds pressure, Cronin remains focused on leveraging the team’s depth and experience to push for a deeper run in the section playoffs.
