Flooding Forces Schedule Change
Heavy rains that swept through the Lakewood district on the evening of August 21 caused the South Fork of the Licking River to surge past flood stage, prompting the Ohio Department of Transportation to shut down a segment of Interstate 70 near Buckeye Lake.
The closure, which was expected to remain in effect through the evening, forced officials to postpone the scheduled 7 p.m. kickoff of the West Muskingum versus Lakewood football game to noon the following day.
Rescheduled Noon Kickoff
With the floodwaters receding enough to restore limited access, the game is now set to resume at noon on August 22, giving teams a compressed window to prepare for the rescheduled contest.
Despite the disruption, West Muskingum opened its 2025 campaign on a high note, routing Falls Township 42‑0 in a dominant performance that showcased the team’s depth and defensive prowess.
The lopsided victory not only boosts early-season morale for the Warriors but also signals a promising start for a squad that appears ready to contend in the upcoming schedule.
