A Familiar Face Returns to the Spartans
Emmanuel Hagan, a former UNCG men’s soccer standout, has been named Director of Operations and Player Development for the Spartans, a move announced by head coach Chris Rich in August 2024. The appointment brings the Ghana‑born defender back to the campus where he helped the program capture three Southern Conference titles.
Rich highlighted Hagan’s deep connection to the university, noting that the new hire is not only an alumnus but also a member of the first recruiting class that Rich assembled after taking the helm. “Emmanuel knows the culture we’ve built,” Rich said, “and his experience as a player and camp coach gives him a unique perspective to guide our current roster.”
From Defensive Pillar to Program Builder
During his collegiate career, Hagan anchored a defense that earned three First‑Team All‑SoCon honors and contributed to NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight run in 2022. Though modest in offensive numbers — four goals and three assists — his defensive contributions were pivotal in UNCG’s consistent success.
After graduating in 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in recreation and parks management, Hagan spent a season at Lees‑McRae College, where his team reached the Conference Carolinas semifinals. He also served as a coach at the Chris Rich Soccer Camp in Greensboro, assisting with youth instruction and individualized training.
A New Chapter of Growth
In his new role, Hagan will oversee player development initiatives and manage day‑to‑day operations for the program. His responsibilities range from coordinating logistics and equipment to shaping the developmental pathway of the team’s emerging talent.
The appointment reflects a broader ambition to sustain UNCG’s upward trajectory in collegiate soccer. By leveraging his playing experience, coaching exposure, and academic background, Hagan aims to reinforce the program’s competitive edge while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
