A Legal Twist Opens the Portal Door
Kimani Hamilton, a three‑star recruit who once topped the state rankings as Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year, is set to return to the Mississippi State Bulldogs after stints at High Point and UNLV.
During his freshman season with the Bulldogs he logged 2.6 points in 12 appearances, but the following years saw him become a starter, consistently delivering double‑digit scoring averages and earning All‑Big South honors at High Point.
The path back to Starkville was cleared by a temporary restraining order in a California lawsuit against the NCAA, which extended his eligibility just as the transfer portal was slated to close on August 24. With the fall semester beginning on August 19, the timing gave Hamilton a narrow window to re‑enroll.
Before college, Hamilton helped Clinton High School capture two MHSAA Class 6A championships, a testament to his leadership on the court and his deep roots in the Mississippi basketball community.
His father, Tang Hamilton, also wore the maroon and white at Mississippi State from 1998 to 2001 before embarking on a brief NBA career with the Miami Heat, making the return a full‑circle moment for the family.
Coach Chris Jans and the Bulldogs’ staff now have the opportunity to blend Hamilton’s seasoned play with the program’s future ambitions, a move that could reshape the team’s dynamics heading into the next season.
