Dooney Johnson, the Milwaukee point guard who helped Juneau High School clinch the WIAA Division 4 state championship in March, is swapping the Midwest for Central Florida as he begins his senior year at East River High School in Orlando.
A State Title and a College Commitment
The 6‑foot‑3 guard capped his junior season with a 23‑point performance in the championship game, adding seven rebounds, four blocks and two assists, and earned Milwaukee City Conference Blue Player of the Year honors.
His recruitment attracted interest from a host of power programs — Cincinnati, Indiana, LSU, Marquette, Nebraska, Southern Methodist, Washington and Wisconsin — but he chose to sign with Gonzaga University, signaling the next chapter of his basketball journey.
The move to Orlando marks the start of what many expect to be a breakout final high school season, with Johnson poised to showcase his skills on a national stage before joining the Bulldogs.
