Season Opener Showdown
The Normal West Wildcats kicked off their Class 6A campaign on August 21 with a 35‑26 victory over Chatham Glenwood, a game that set the tone for a promising season.
Junior quarterback Chase Sennett, making his first varsity start, delivered a stellar performance, throwing for 326 yards and four touchdowns while completing 23 of 31 passes.
His primary target, junior receiver K'Shaun Jones, caught six passes for 125 yards and three scores, including a pivotal short run after a fumble that shifted momentum.
Senior running back Cody Muhlbauer provided the ground game firepower, rushing for 142 yards, 106 of which came in the second half, helping the Wildcats pull away.
The Wildcats' defense also stepped up, forcing turnovers that set up additional scoring drives, including a quick touchdown by Marceon Williams on the next possession after halftime.
Glenwood's Bright Spots
Despite the loss, Glenwood showed resilience. Junior running back Malik Banks accounted for two touchdowns, a 52‑yard rush and a 10‑yard screen pass, keeping the Titans competitive.
Junior quarterback Michael Young, in his varsity debut, completed 18 of 29 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns, adding a rushing score in the second quarter that briefly narrowed the gap.
The Titans' final drive was halted by a penalty, a frustrating end that left them with a 0‑1 record but plenty of lessons as they look to rebound.
Both teams will now turn their attention to upcoming matchups, with the Wildcats aiming to build on their early chemistry and the Titans seeking to correct the mistakes that cost them the game.
