A freshman at PennWest University was found dead on the campus grounds after a brutal attack that sent shockwaves through the student body.
The victim, Karoline Heintz, had been stabbed in the chest by her boyfriend, Royce Moser, who later told investigators that a "demon" had compelled him to act.
According to court filings, Moser recruited his mother, Rachel Moser, to help clean the interior of the vehicle used in the attack and to abandon it near the university library.
The Jeep Cherokee was later located with the victim's body still inside the rear hatch, and forensic analysis revealed signs of tampering with the crime scene.
Both suspects now face multiple charges: Royce Moser is accused of homicide, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse and obstruction of justice, while Rachel Moser is charged with hindering apprehension, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse and obstruction.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Prosecutors have indicated they will seek a grand jury indictment, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month, where further details of the alleged motive and cover‑up will be examined.
A Campus in Mourning
Candles and flowers have begun to appear at the spot where Heintz's body was discovered, and a memorial service is being planned to honor her memory.
