A New Chapter for the Guard
Treysen Eaglestaff, a former West Virginia University basketball player, announced his commitment to the University of California, San Diego, securing his final year of eligibility after a Texas court injunction granted extra eligibility to the class of 2022 high school athletes.
During his lone season with the Mountaineers he averaged 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, while his previous campaign at the University of North Dakota saw him score 18.9 points per game.
The ruling has reshaped roster planning across several programs, leaving West Virginia with one remaining scholarship spot for the 2026‑27 season as they adapt to recent departures.
Eaglestaff’s most memorable performances at WVU came against Xavier, Mississippi Valley State and Arizona State, each producing 23 points and highlighting his scoring versatility.
Coaches at UC San Diego have expressed enthusiasm about integrating Eaglestaff into a program poised for growth, citing his rebounding tenacity and ability to impact games at a high level.
