New Mexico State’s men’s basketball program has announced the addition of Stephon Payne, a fifth‑year forward who brings a blend of size, experience and proven rebounding to the Aggies’ frontcourt.
Payne spent the last season at Seton Hall, where he started every game and helped the Pirates secure a strong defensive identity, averaging 6.5 rebounds per contest while contributing 6.9 points.
Across four seasons in Division I, he logged 849 points and 732 rebounds, including a career‑high 18‑point, 16‑rebound performance against Providence that earned him a spot among the five Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week.
His collegiate journey began at Incarnate Word, continued at Jacksonville, and included a standout high school career at Andrew Jackson High School, where he was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Gateway Conference.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Payne is the fourth stop in his college career, having previously worn the jerseys of Incarnate Word, Jacksonville and Seton Hall before signing with New Mexico State.
