The Wheeling Park High School girls soccer team opened its season with a pair of matches that highlighted both resilience and attacking flair.
In their first outing, the squad faced George Washington High School and settled for a 2‑2 draw after a seesaw battle that saw freshman striker Reagan Ricker open the scoring in the first half, only for the visitors to rally in the second half and take a 2‑1 lead before Wheeling Park equalised in the 79th minute through Kailey Swartz.
Two days later the team hosted Jefferson High School and secured a convincing 6‑2 victory, with goals from Corin McFarland, Brenna Tipton, Molly Bradshaw and an own‑goal adding to the tally, while Tipton’s 11th‑minute strike, assisted by Aria Swartz, marked her first goal of the campaign.
Coach’s confidence in the young roster was rewarded as the team built a 4‑0 advantage early in the second half before Jefferson added two late consolation goals, ending the match at 6‑2.
The upcoming fixture against Marietta promises another test for a lineup that blends freshman sparkle with junior experience, and fans are eager to see how the team continues to develop.
