The Hart Park football field in Wauwatosa has officially reopened after a year‑long recovery from severe flooding that forced the closure of the venue in August 2025.
Tosa East High School’s football team took to the freshly restored turf for their first home game on Friday, marking a symbolic return for players, families and the broader community.
Liz Paulsen, whose son is a senior on the team, described the moment as “pure relief” after months of waiting to see her child play on home ground again.
Melodie Fox, another parent, echoed the sentiment, noting how the field’s reopening eliminated the need to travel to rival schools for matches.
Repair Work and Financial Backing
The flood caused extensive damage, including the destruction of the synthetic turf and structural stress on the bleachers after a surge from the Menomonee River.
Mayor Dennis McBride reported that the stadium incurred roughly $1.5 million in repairs, with the drainage system identified as the most critical component to restore.
Funding for the restoration came from a combination of donations by the Tosa Foundation, insurance payouts and allocations from city reserves, allowing the work to move forward without delay.
While the main stadium, playgrounds and other amenities have been repaired, officials acknowledge that the softer sections of the field still require additional attention before they are fully safe for play.
City officials say the reopening is a testament to community resilience and collaborative effort, and they hope the revived venue will serve as a hub for future sporting events and school activities.
