Albion Youth Football Teams Split Results in Weekend Action
On Saturday, the Albion youth football program competed in four separate contests within the Niagara Orleans Football Association, delivering a mixed bag of outcomes that highlighted both offensive firepower and defensive resilience.
The Beginners’ squad surged to an 18‑6 victory over LeRoy, driven by a dominant rushing attack. Myles LaBarge carved out 171 yards on the ground and punched in three touchdowns, while the defense limited LeRoy to just six points. Supporting contributors James Mahoney, Hudson Hodgins and Jaxon Nashburn added modest but crucial gains.
The Minis category suffered a 6‑0 shutout at the hands of LeRoy, with Hudson Palmer anchoring a defensive effort that recorded eight tackles, though the offense could not find a breakthrough.
The junior‑varsity team also fell, 33‑0, to LeRoy, where Kaydence Russaw led the defensive charge with 13 tackles, underscoring the need for offensive adjustments.
In contrast, the varsity side exploded for a 55‑15 win over Newfane. Jeramiah Hildreth was the centerpiece, scoring four touchdowns, including a 37‑yard reception from Jace DiMatteo, while AJ Lewis added two scores and Damareon Shine rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown. Camden Holt provided a defensive spark with a 92‑yard interception return for a touchdown and two tackles, epitomizing the team’s all‑field impact.
Across all levels, Albion’s defensive units compiled a strong collective performance. Key contributors such as Tanner Beecher, Levi Purnell, Conner Hinkley and Ryan Gardner helped keep opponents in check, while Jace DiMatteo’s passing set up multiple scores. The varied successes and setbacks illustrate the program’s depth and the competitive nature of the league.
