A fresh start on the field
The Chippewa Hills boys soccer program, which last competed four seasons ago, has officially returned to action. Coach Mike Powell, who brings eight years of experience and a background in the AYSO program in Barryton, announced the revival with a mix of optimism and realism.
The Warriors roster now ranges from eight to sixteen players, blending freshmen, sophomores and a single junior. Powell emphasized that the team’s youth does not diminish its ambition, noting that the players have been preparing through conditioning, weight‑room work and tactical drills.
Practice began on August 10, and the first regular‑season match is slated for August 31 at Shepherd High School. The schedule marks the culmination of a summer that also included indoor league games in Cedar Springs and basketball workouts in June, giving the athletes a diverse athletic foundation.
Among the returnees is Powell’s own son, Carter Powell, who joins the squad as a freshman. The team’s growth from thirteen to sixteen players reflects a community effort to rebuild the program, and the coaching staff is focused on developing both skill and confidence as the new season unfolds.
