The Northern Illinois University men’s soccer squad opened its season on the road, falling 3-1 to Loyola Chicago at Loyola Soccer Park on August 23.
Six minutes in, Braeden Wright opened the scoring with a swift strike that put the Ramblers ahead 1-0.
NIU answered back when Tobias Crear struck in the 22nd minute, leveling the match at 1-1.
Loyola regained the lead just before halftime as Mateusz Drazek’s low shot from 15 yards found the net in the 30th minute.
The second half saw Jack McFeely extend the Ramblers’ lead in the 57th minute, sealing a 3-1 final score.
Despite the loss, the Huskies outshot their opponents 14-6 overall, with 10-4 attempts coming after the break and six of seven corners taken in the second half.
Northern Illinois will return to action on August 27, hosting Marquette at 7 p.m. at the NIU Soccer Complex, where admission will be free.
