Kendell Walker, a Jackson native and former basketball standout, has been hired as the new head boys’ basketball coach at Liberty Tech, his alma mater.
Walker arrives after a distinguished coaching stint that includes three seasons as head coach at Carver High School in Atlanta and an assistant role at South Side High School in Tennessee, where he helped guide the team to a historic 32‑0 start before the season was halted by the pandemic.
A Legacy of Leadership
A Liberty Tech alumnus, Walker starred for two seasons as a starter, served as team captain and earned two‑time All‑Region honors, laying the groundwork for a career defined by leadership and community involvement.
His playing journey continued at Morehouse College, where he was a two‑year starter and three‑year team captain, leading the program to back‑to‑back SIAC Eastern Division regular‑season championships.
Walker holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from Morehouse and a Master’s in Education from Union University, and he previously led the Tennessee Blazers 5th Grade Boys AAU program in 2021.
Superintendent Dr. Marlon King praised Walker’s return, highlighting his excellence, leadership and commitment to the Jackson‑Madison County School System’s values.
Deputy Superintendent Dr. Ricky Catlett echoed the sentiment, noting that Walker’s character will have a lasting impact on student‑athletes and the broader school community.
Walker’s appointment is more than a personnel move; it is a statement about the power of homegrown talent to shape the future of local sports programs.
