Farooq had already recorded 76 tackles and forced six turnovers, delivering standout performances in close losses to Oklahoma and Vanderbilt, and was widely viewed as a player on the cusp of a breakout year.

His absence adds to a series of setbacks for a unit that already saw the departures of key veterans Jermod McCoy and Rickey Gibson III, leaving the secondary thinner than many had anticipated.
