McQueen High School in Reno announced Wednesday that a record 17 of its student‑athletes have signed letters of intent to compete at the collegiate level, marking the largest single‑year signing class in the school’s recent history.
Coach Matt Marner said the milestone reflects the program’s growth and the athletes’ dedication, noting that five football players signing is the most since the Lancers’ 2008 state championship team.
Where the Lancers are headed
Four members of the 4A state championship football team will join Feather River College, while Alex Grush will continue his career at Sierra College.
Grush, who recorded 38 receptions for 867 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, is expected to make an immediate impact for the Sierra College football program.
Softball standout Vanessa Bein will head to San Francisco State University, where she will bring a .534 batting average, 45 RBIs and eight home runs to the roster.
Other commitments
The remaining athletes are dispersing across the country to pursue a variety of sports, including lacrosse at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, soccer at the College of Idaho, and wrestling at Linfield University.
The signing day underscores the breadth of talent emerging from McQueen and signals a busy future for the Lancers’ athletic programs.
