Baylor University’s men’s soccer squad entered the 2026 campaign as the No. 6 team in the nation, but its opening match delivered a sobering result.
The Bears fell 3‑1 to Texas State on a night that saw the visitors strike first, only to watch the home side rally when Lauren Omholt found the net in the second minute of the second half to level the score at 1‑1.
Texas State’s Helen Alormenu then took control, delivering a brace that swung momentum decisively in her team’s favor, first in the 56th minute and again in the 72nd.
Despite out‑shooting the Bobcats 16‑5, Baylor struggled to convert chances, while the Bobcats matched five of those attempts on target. The Bears also logged a season‑high eight corner kicks, but disciplinary issues mounted, including a yellow card to Aryanna Jimison that added to the team’s woes.

Looking ahead, Baylor will travel to face Texas on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Mike A. Myers Stadium, with the contest streamed live on the SEC Network.
