A Heated Moment on the Court
During a timeout in a highly anticipated Women's National Basketball Association matchup, former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom was removed from the game after a heated verbal exchange with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud. The confrontation unfolded on the court at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, where Kanter Freedom had taken the unusual step of wearing a T‑shirt emblazoned with the phrase “WOMAN noun. Adult human female.”
Kanter Freedom later took to the social platform X, posting a message that read, “I just got kicked out of a WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!” He also announced his intention to enter the upcoming WNBA Draft, citing concerns over eligibility rules for transgender women athletes.
Words That Echoed Beyond the Arena
In response, Cloud wrote on Threads, “To every trans kid/person, you are part of my community & tribe. You belong. You’re loved. You’re seen. You’re perfect as you are & you will always be protected by me.” Her statement underscored the growing dialogue around inclusion and identity within professional basketball.
A League's Response
The Indiana Fever ultimately secured a 113‑90 victory over the Sky. Sky head coach Tyler Marsh used the moment to stress that the league’s players deserve respect and that fans should focus on the sport itself, saying, “The league’s players deserve respect and it’s important that fans enjoy the basketball.”
Security personnel and several Sky players intervened to prevent Kanter Freedom from leaving the court, and after the game he spoke with Chicago police officers outside the arena. The incident added a layer of public scrutiny to an already charged atmosphere.
