Taylor Gardner, a junior goalkeeper for the Jacksonville Dolphins, has been named the ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week after a flawless start to the season.
The accolade follows two consecutive shutouts that have left the Dolphins as the only ASUN team yet to concede a goal, improving their record to 1‑0‑1.
Dominant Defensive Display
In her last two appearances she faced a combined 30 shots, making 12 saves while preserving clean sheets against the University of Miami and Georgia Southern. Against Miami she turned away four of six shots on target in a 2‑0 victory, and a 0‑0 draw with Georgia Southern saw her deny 16 attempts, including four on goal.
Gardner’s performance has lifted her to the top of the conference in goals‑against average and placed her sixth nationally in total saves, while she has also set new personal bests with six saves and 180 minutes played in a single season.
Looking Ahead to Florida
The Dolphins are set to test their unbeaten streak against the University of Florida, a matchup that will further gauge Gardner’s ability to maintain the league’s best defensive record.
Her achievement marks the third time a Jacksonville player has earned an ASUN weekly honor this season, joining Ula Omerzu’s Player of the Week award and Millie Urquhart’s Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
