Freshman midfielder Emely Lopez has quickly become a cornerstone of the Indiana State women’s soccer squad, earning the university’s Student‑Athlete of the Week honor from Hannig Construction.
Early Season Impact
In her first two appearances, Lopez recorded three goals and five assists, including a two‑goal, four‑assist outing in a 12‑0 victory over Saint Mary‑of‑the‑Woods and a goal with an assist in a 5‑1 win over Chicago State.
Her contributions have helped the Sycamores open the season 3‑1, and she is currently tied for the team lead in scoring with three goals, sharing the tally with Addyson Warner and CharlieBleu Saunders.
Lopez’s five assists rank just one behind Kaitlynn Long, placing her among the top playmakers early in the campaign.
The weekly award, announced throughout the 2026‑27 athletic season, highlights not only her statistical output but also her role in a roster that includes fellow freshmen such as Isabella Berta, Dasha Tuckova, and the aforementioned Warner and Saunders.
A native of Shakopee, Minnesota, Lopez brings a blend of vision and work rate that coach says will be pivotal as the team looks to build on its promising start.
