The Fair Grove soccer program enters the new season with a sense of momentum after posting a 13‑10‑1 record a year ago, marking a second straight winning campaign. Six of the eleven starters return, giving the team a solid foundation as they look to build on last year’s success.
Head coach Ryan Highstreet is emphasizing a new defensive identity, particularly the development of a cohesive back line and the emergence of a reliable goalkeeper. His vision calls for tighter organization and quicker transitions to support the team’s attacking ambitions.
Up front, senior Jacob Shurtz and sophomore Ty Hart headline a potent attack. Shurtz earned second‑team all‑state honors last year with 18 goals and 10 assists, while Hart contributed a strong supporting cast, giving the team a dynamic duo that can stretch defenses.
Midfielders Tyler Whitehead and Caiden Tennison add depth to the offensive engine, having combined for 23 goals last season. Finn Harp and Ryan Blecher round out the midfield, bringing creativity and work rate that will be crucial in controlling the tempo of games.
Defensive Revamp and Goalkeeping
Defensive breakout candidates Colton Miller and Elliott Schlak, both juniors, are expected to step up after modest contributions a year ago. Miller’s four goals and Schlak’s defensive versatility could prove pivotal, while senior David Hupman will guard the net in his final high school season, aiming to stabilize the last line.
The team opens its schedule at the Marshfield Kickoff Tournament on August 28‑29, a test that will reveal how quickly the new defensive unit gels. With district championship aspirations, the squad hopes to blend offensive firepower with improved chemistry and discipline.
