Revitalizing Alpharetta: A Bold New Development Proposal
The Alpharetta City Council is preparing to vote on a mixed‑use project that would transform the North Point Mall site into a sprawling complex of retail, office, residential and entertainment spaces.
Central to the plan is a 20,000‑seat hockey arena designed to meet NHL specifications, a 4,000‑seat music hall, a 2,000‑seat practice facility and a movie theater, all intended to create a year‑round cultural hub.
The development also calls for 750,000 square feet of office space, 565,000 square feet of retail and restaurant venues, and 1,385 rental units, while dedicating 26 acres to parks, plazas and multi‑use trails across 98.58 acres of land.
Initiated in March by property owner New York Life and developer Jamestown, the scheme aims to breathe new life into the area and to serve as a catalyst for attracting an NHL franchise back to Georgia, a market that last hosted the Atlanta Thrashers until their departure in 2011.
City officials say the project could generate thousands of jobs, boost local tax revenues and position Alpharetta as a regional destination for sports, music and leisure, while also providing new housing options for residents.
