The Mountain West Conference opened the 2026 soccer season by honoring two freshmen who helped their teams start with winning records.
Scordo’s early impact
Maxim Scordo, a forward from Newport, California, led UNLV to a 2-1 victory over CSUN in the season opener. He scored a brace within 59 minutes and added four points to the Rebels’ tally.
Anderson’s defensive mastery
Hunter Anderson, a goalkeeper from Lake Stevens, Washington, backstopped Air Force to a 1-1 draw with Army and a 0-0 stalemate against Marist. Across 180 minutes he faced 16 shots, kept opponents to a single goal and recorded a shutout against Marist with 10 saves.
What’s next for the newcomers
Both players figure prominently in their programs’ plans as the schedule intensifies. Their early performances suggest the conference will feature tightly contested matches and emerging talent throughout the campaign.
